Many people dream of wearing Iron Man’s armor to swim in the sky, and today Adam Savage opened the door to the reality of this dream for us.
Adam Savage, the famous American special effects artist and the host of the program “The End of the Gossip”, just recently, he tried to create a set of flying armor with the current 3D printing technology.
A technology team at the Colorado School of Mines was recruited by him to build a set of Iron Man armor with titanium. All parts are made using 3D printing technology.
The 3D printed titanium armor is lightweight and strong enough to withstand light weapons attacks, and Adam Savage has also done bulletproof tests.
More importantly, this armor must not only be shaped, but also have the ability to fly.
Finally, he chose a lightweight backpack-type jet engine made by Gravity Industries. The main thruster is mounted on the back of the armor. Multiple small jet engines are installed on the arm. Only the wearer can change the direction of the arm and it can be in flight. Control the direction, even without adjusting the jet thrust.
Adam Savage began learning how to fly in a hangar near San Francisco.
The powerful jet engine makes it easy to bring the wearer to the sky, more like learning to maneuver the helicopter, and quickly master the flight essentials.
In the armor helmet, there is also a head-up display similar to Iron Man, which can be connected to the power system to observe the engine operation at all times. Now the flight height of the armor is about 4.5 meters. Because of the limitation of carrying fuel, it is impossible to achieve long-distance flight. This will be the most difficult situation to overcome in the future.
I think that with the advancement of 3D printing technology, all sci-fi has a chance to become a reality. The future deserves our expectation.
