Local Motors, an arizona-based automotive oems, is rolling out a 3D printing technology electric vehicle called Olli 2.0, which is an upgrade of the original electric vehicle.
Olli 2.0 is designed for communities, campuses and urban centers as an intelligent, safe and sustainable transportation option.Compared to its predecessor Olli, Olli 2.0 USES 50% of the parts and reduces manual production time by half.
“The future is here, it’s just not evenly distributed.“Explains John b. Rogers, co-founder and CEO of Local Motors.” that’s a lot of what I say.Because people often ask me, ‘hey, when can I see this car?2023?What do you think?‘my answer: it’s here now, it’s not everywhere.
3D printing technology self-driving shuttle
Olli was first introduced in 2016 as a low-speed, on-demand, autonomous vehicle capable of carrying 12 passengers at a time.Through 3D printing technology, and more specifically through the BAAM 3D printer and IBM Watson IoT platform, the vehicle can be 3D printed and assembled through 3D printing technology in 10 hours.
In addition, Olli is equipped with a 360°LiDAR scanner that can sense the environment in all directions. As a result of 3D printing technology, vehicles can be customized for different environments and requirements. It has passed tests on a number of roads, including Olli’s collaboration with deutsche bahn on the streets of Berlin and its deployment on the campus of Sacramento state university.
Olli 2.0 has developed more options, including natural language recognition, which can be modified to make the system addressable through “Olli.”
In addition to speech recognition, Olli 2.0 integrates with Affectiva, an MIT start-up, to enable facial and emotional tracking of passengers and dynamic route optimization. In addition, it can reach a maximum speed of 25 MPH, providing optimal safety.
Olli 2.0 is phasing out its previous models, which are being manufactured at Local Motors Industries’ microplant in Knoxville, tenn., and will be deployed in the coming months.
